I had some fun recently when I attempted an upgrade to the latest MySQL after installing Leopard. Here are some links that I found helpful in case anyone out there happens to stumble upon my site while enduring the same:

Both postings link to myriad other postings in case you’re stuck. One thing I found to be helpful as well is to ensure you fully stop any MySQL processes running prior to going through the upgrade and/or any of the above.

As an aside, if you happen to be doing anything with the Ruby DataMapper ORM, upgrading is made a bit more interesting. However, the folks over at Bust Out Solutions wrote a post dealing with the simultaneous occurrence of DataMapper 0.2, Leopard and MySQL upgrades.
